A bed bridge can turn two adjacent mattresses into a more continuous sleeping surface. The right design starts with four measurements: mattress length, pocket depth, height difference and center-gap width.
1. Identify mattress length
Standard Twin mattresses are normally about 75 inches long. Twin XL mattresses are normally about 80 inches long and are commonly used in Split King beds. Match the bridge length to the mattresses rather than relying only on the bed’s marketing name.
2. Decide between a strap and fitted design
A surrounding-strap bridge works well when the mattresses remain flat or move together. A fitted sheet or protector system creates a unified top layer and is better suited to setups where fitted coverage is preferred. For independently moving adjustable bases, choose a design intended to move with the two sides.
3. Check gap width and mattress height
A bridge fills the center space; it cannot fully compensate for mattresses with very different heights or edge firmness. Align both mattresses, measure the widest part of the gap and compare it with the product specifications.
4. Plan installation and laundering
Strap models require access around the mattress pair. Fitted models require enough pocket depth. Removable foam should be taken out before washing any sheet, cover or protector.
Care and safety
Follow the product care label and the bed or chair manufacturer’s instructions. Keep foam components dry, allow washable covers to dry fully, and stop use if any component pulls, shifts or interferes with moving furniture.
